BONUS Day, 9 February 2010
Bonus Day, held in Helsinki, will gather together researchers, end-users of research knowledge and representatives of the administrative authorities from the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The aim is to provide answers to the following questions for the Baltic Sea Action Summit held February 10.
The goal of the BONUS Day is to find new ways to use research as a base for policy decisions and enhance cross-sectoral communication as well as to discuss the values of the Baltic Sea. In particular, the focus is in maritime safety and the multitude of goods and services provided by the Baltic Sea ecosystem. We cannot afford losing or weakening these values and privileges. The BONUS Day is a unique opportunity to send a clear and concise message to political decision makers at the Baltic Sea Action Summit. It is time to create a new mode for an interplay between science and policy-making.
The Academy of Finland will plan the programme of the day together with BONUS EEIG, Baltic Sea Action Group, the Ministry of the Environment, the Marine Research Centre of the Finnish Environment Institute, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, TEKES and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
